Public Access to Records Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Law

Designation of Records Access Officer

The Commission on Public Integrity ("CPI") has designated the following individual as the Records Access Officer:

Requests for Public Access to Records Not Available Online

Requests for public access to records shall be in writing and provided to CPI in any of the following ways:

  1. By foil email request form
  2. By email sent to foil@nyintegrity.org;
  3. By mail sent to the attention of the Records Access Officer (see address above)
  4. In person, by filling out a FOIL REQUEST FORM that can be obtained at the Commission's Reception Desk (see address above)

Fees for Photocopies

CPI waives copying fees, except for exceedingly voluminous FOIL requests.

Directions for Public Inspection

Upon making an appointment with the Records Access Officer, requests to inspect and copy records at CPI's offices may be granted. With a prior appointment, inspection may occur on days that the Commission is regularly open for business from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Denial of Access to Records

The Records Access Officer may deny access to records in whole or part as provided in the Freedom of Information Law.

Appeal of a Denial and Appeals Officer

The Executive Director of the Commission on Public Integrity is designated as the Appeals Officer and shall determine appeals regarding denial of access to records under the Freedom of Information Law.

Any person denied access to records may appeal within thirty days of a denial. The time for deciding an appeal by the Appeals Officer shall commence upon receipt of a written appeal identifying:

  1. the date and location of requests for records;
  2. a description, to the extent possible, of the records that were denied; and
  3. the name and return address of the person denied access.

A failure to determine an appeal within ten business days of its receipt by granting access to the records sought or fully explaining the reasons for further denial in writing shall constitute a denial of the appeal.
