Herbert Teitelbaum
Herbert Teitelbaum became Executive Director of the New York State Commission on Public Integrity in October 2007 after serving as Executive Director of the New York State Ethics Commission.
From 1996 until his appointment to the Ethics Commission, he was a senior litigation partner of Bryan Cave LLP, chairing the firm's securities litigation practice, handling lawsuits in state and federal courts, participating in internal investigations, negotiating complex litigation resolutions and serving on the firm's pro bono Committee.
Previously, he built his own law firm and engaged in many lawsuits involving the rights of large classes of individuals. From 1972 to 1977, he served as the founding Legal Director of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund. Mr. Teitelbaum has served as a consultant to the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare and the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and as a cooperating counsel to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. He is a graduate of Brandeis University and New York University School of Law.
His civic activities have included serving as President of New Israel Fund Inc.; as a member of the New York State Judicial Screening Committee; and as Chair of the Lawyers Committee of the National Conference on Soviet Jewry.
